Mountain Brook Writers' Festival

Mountain Brook Writers' Festival

Lots of News for 2017!

Hi

And welcome to my first newsletter of the year. I've got lots to share. Specifically, I'm a guest at a book festival, I'm teaching a writing and gaming course, and I am a participant at an exciting convention later in the year.

First up, next week will see me as one of several author guests at the Mountain Brook Writers' Festival. From from Feb. 28 through March 2, five authors will visit Mountain Brook Elementary, Brookwood Forest Elementary and Cherokee Bend Elementary. I'll be joining Margaret Peterson Haddix, Henry Cole, Lori Nichols and Susan Carothers. Books will be available for sale but it's fine for students to purchase titles ahead of time and bring them to the event.

Next up, I'll be teaching a course as one of the offerings in the Altamont School's Summer at Altamont programs. "Creative Writing and Tabletop Role-Playing Games" will run from June 19th to 30th, Monday through Friday, and is open for boys and girls grades 4th through 8th. The course description:

Acclaimed children's book author and award-winning editor Lou Anders (author of the Thrones & Bones series of fantasy adventure books), teaches a two week creative writing course that utilizes discussions of popular film combined with imaginative tabletop role playing games to teach character creation, plotting, and story structure. Students will learn principles of creative writing gleaned from contemporary movies, while practicing these techniques in both creative writing exercises and fun pen and paper gaming. Every participant will received a rule book and a set of four dice.

I'm very excited about this course and hope you are too. Participation is limited to 25 students so if you or your child is interested, sign up now!

Finally, I'll be one of several children's book authors attending this year's NOLA Story Con in New Orleans from September 15th to 17th.  The convention is hosted by Jeaniene Frost, Melissa Marr, and Kelley Armstrong. It features special guests Charlaine Harris and Christine Feehan. And just look at the list of other attending authors: Lara Adrian, Renee Ahdieh, Lou Anders (!), Lenore Appelhans, Jeanette Battista, Jenna Black, Allison Brennan, Rachel Caine, Kiera Cass, Kristin Cast, PC Cast, Matthew Cody, Bruce Coville, Zoraida Cordova, Delilah Dawson, Alyssa Day, Kimberly Derting, Sonali Dev, Jennifer Estep, Kami Garcia, Molly Harper, Kevin Hearne, Lorraine Heath, Beverly Jenkins, Darynda Jones,  Toni L.P. Kelner, Chelsea Mueller, Pamela Palmer, Aprilynne Pike, Tom Pollock, Kerrelyn Sparks, Rachel Vincent and Jaye Wells.

If you plan on attending, I encourage you to sign up for one of their New Orleans Walking Tours before they're gone!

And that's all the news for now. I hope everyone is having a great year!

Be healthy,

Lou Anders
