Home from a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Hi all,

This past week I was traveling in a galaxy far, far away, by which I mean California. The occasion was my first time in half a decade attending the San Diego Comic-Con, but we extended our trip and took in the new Galaxy's Edge theme park at Disneyland before heading to the show.

And it was incredible! Galaxy's Edge is a spaceport called Black Spire Outpost on the world of Batuu, and its number one attraction is the ride Smugglers Run. In Smugglers Run, Hondo Ohnaka asks you to pilot the legendary Millennium Falcon for him, and as you know, the reason Hondo has the Falcon at all is detailed in my novel, Star Wars: Pirate's Price.

So last week, I got to ride the ride that my book is based on, and I got to actually pilot the Millennium Falcon myself. I also got to drink a Fuzzy Tauntaun in Oga's Cantina, just like ol' Hondo himself. We also built a lightsaber, assembled a BB droid, tried Blue Bantha Milk, and rode other traditional Disney attractions, but just being on Batuu and "inhabiting the space" was a really amazing experience. 

Then it was off to the San Deigo Comic-Con for five days of wading through incredible crowds, overeating, and gawking at overpriced toys! And also catching up with some wonderful friends, like author George Mann, as well as making new ones. Friday was one of the highlights of my con though. I was one of a host of authors on the Lucasfilm Publishing Panel. We each talked about our books, and then Michael Siglain, Creative Director, Lucasfilm Publishing, previewed some very exciting books and comics coming up. Do I look like the kind of person who drinks Fuzzy Tauntauns? Well, I am. (Actually, it made me sneeze.)

Nearly, but not entirely, all of us on the Lucasfilm Publishing Panel. All of these authors promised to write about Puffy the Porg in their upcoming books. Honest, they did.
