Young Reader's Choice Awards

PSLA Young Reader's Choice Awards!

Hi

I have some exciting news to share. My novel Frostborn, the first novel in the Thrones & Bones series, has been chosen as a nominee for the Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Awards Program for the coming 2016-2017 school year. The award is sponsored by the Pennsylvania School Librarians Association.  The purpose of the award program is to promote reading of quality books by young people in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to promote teacher and librarian involvement in children's literature and to honor authors whose work has been recognized by the children of Pennsylvania. You can check out the awards program on the Pennsylvania School Librarians web site at www.psla.org. You can see the full 2016-17 list here.

This is the fourth such award for Frostborn. The book has already been nominated for Children's Literary Association of Utah's Beehive Book Award, the Nebraska Library Association's Golden Sower Award, and the Indiana Library Federation's Young Hoosier Book Award. Thanks to everyone who nominated in each of these awards and congratulations to all my fellow nominees.

16 Fun, Escapist Books To Get Your Mind off This Crazy Election Year

Earlier this week, the media website io9 kindly included Frostborn as the only children's book in a list of "16 Fun, Escapist Books To Get Your Mind off This Crazy Election Year." They said of the book: "... it’s a ridiculously fun, super-exciting adventure. Karn is a nerdy kid whose dad expects him to run the family farm—but Karn just wants to play a complicated, fancy board game instead. And meanwhile, Thianna is a half-frost giant girl who gets bullied by all the other frost giants because she’s so tiny. (Only seven feet tall.) In other words, it’s about a gamer and a weird girl who have to team up to save the world. And it’s just non-stop fun."

This is the second mention of Frostborn on io9. When the book debuted, they review it, proclaiming it was "The fantasy adventure book I wish I'd had when I was a kid." Obviously, I'm thrilled and grateful they like it so much.

That's all the news this time. I've been busy with school visits and working on a secret project. There are some exciting upcoming appearances scheduled for the summer and the fall in several states outside my own. More on that when we get closer.

Meanwhile, take care, and as the Norrønir of Thrones & Bones say, "Be healthy,"
