Happy New Year 2026

2025 is out the door, and 2026 is just getting started. Thank you to everyone who spent some of your time here and/or adventuring in the land of Norrøngard. It's too early to know exactly what is in store for Thrones & Bones in the coming year, but there are a few things I'm confident talking about.

The big project is going to be the Bestiary of Katerina and the Chronicles of Katerina. This is a monster book featuring creatures from all over the continent, of which Norrøngard is only a small part. There's an accompanying adventure book featuring the critters from the book which is set in various regions, each wildly different from the other. This is a BIG PROJECT, so it may not hit Kickstarter until the second half of the year, but when it does, it will mark the first offering in the world of Thrones & Bones not featuring the Scandinavian-styled land of Norrøngard. Already there are over 100 monsters and five adventures, with a half-dozen more adventures in the works.

Recently, our Thrones & Bones Actual Play, Norrøngard Unscripted, pulled back the curtain on some of these new lands and monsters. Our heroes jumped through a portal into the land of Talvedra, where they met one of the new monsters. When they tried to get back home, they instead ended up in Araland, where they met another. So if you are curious about what might be in store, you're welcome to check that out. Our show resumes next Wednesday at 5:30 PST / 8:30 EST. It's also on Twitch.

Meanwhile, I've started a series called Dungeon Dialogues on TikTok, and that will continue. These are short videos going over aspects of game design, world building, and other thoughts-as-they-occur. Here's the recent New Year's message.

On a personal front, in addition to continuing the live play, I've started in-person home games of Dragonbane and Vaesen, and I'm looking to play some Alien and maybe The One Ring too. I love D&D/ToV, but it's both fun and instructive to see what else is out there. And having made my return to conventions in 2025, I'm looking forward to being at at least two shows this year.

That's it for now. I hope everyone has a great year in store.
