Post Gen Con & Battle Posts

I recently attended my second ever GenCon and the first convention anywhere in which I played RPGs at the con. Held from July 31st to August 3rd in Indianapolis, GenCon pulled in around 70,000 people, but for all that, it wasn't the mad house I expected.
In fact, I had a bast. I played in the new Legends of Greyhawk organized play hosted by Baldman Games, and in four Kobold Press Tales of the Valiant games set in their new Labyrinth "campaign overlay" (ie multiversal setting).
The Legends of Greyhawk games were played in the Lucas Oil Stadium (pictured below) but D&D had taken over the West Club Lounge so we weren't on the main floor of the stadium.

I played in a special linked series of three games, all at the same table with the same Dungeon Master and players. The adventures were well written, and I plan to purchase them when they are commercially available. I also think I'll play in more Legends of Greyhawk games next year. I like my character, and these full-color treasure handouts are nice!

For all that, I think the best games I played were the Tales of the Valiant ones from Kobold Press. They weren't linked (though the adventures can be if you have the Labyrinth Adventures book), and I just played pregenerated characters (PreGens), but overall I thought the Game Masters were more engaged and enthusiastic and the energy at the tables was better.
Meanwhile, Mt. Fuji is my new favorite sushi restaurant and Encanto Alebrije was a great Mexican restaurant around the corner from my hotel! Here is some, but not all, of what I got at the con:

I'm back now and hard at work on finishing and fulfilling the Fury of the Forsaken Kickstarter. Late Pledges are still being accepted if you want to jump in. I also keep getting positive feedback on the mass combat system used in the climax of the adventure. In fact, the blog Melestrua's Musings recently had a post entitled "How do you run Mass Combat in D&D?" that went through several systems and gave our battlecraft system a resounding thumbs up!
We also plan to pick up our long-delayed actual play this Wednesday at 5:15 PST / 8:15 EST, playing the second half of Tomb of the Frost Giant. You can watch us live or later on the Lazy Wolf Studios YouTube Channel.
That's all for now. More as I know it.
