Introducing: Lands of Katernia

Four heroes (one of whom is a mouse) confront a variety of monsters, including vicious birds, a giant centipede, and tatzelwurm, and some red furballs with wide mouths and sharp fangs.

Last night, we unveiled the Pre-launch page for the new Kickstarter, Lands of Katernia.

Lands of Katernia is an ambitious, three-book project that will greatly broaden and enrich the Thrones & Bones setting of Dungeons & Dragons and Tales of the Valiant adventure games.

Up until now, we've been exploring and expanding the Scandinavian land of Norrøngard. Now we lift the curtain on the entire continent of which that cold, frozen land is just a tiny part.

Creatures of Katernia is a tome of bizarre beasts, some drawn from real-world folklore and mythology, some pulled from the pages of the Thrones & Bones novels, and some from the crazy corners of wild imaginations. Each of the over one hundred new monsters will have details on their habitats, the lore PCs can know going into an encounter, signs that they are in an area, and things they could be doing when encountered.

Chronicles of Katernia is an exciting anthology of stories each of which occurs in a richly-detailed region of the continent. The book, penned by a band of fabulous TTRPG designers, showcases both the new monsters and the new lands. The adventures can be run as one-shots, dropped into appropriate existing campaigns, serve as springboards for their own longer stories, or linked together as a loose adventure path.

Our four heroes travel through a woods while ghosts and froggy-fey wait to ambush them on this cover of the next book.

Countries of Katernia is a system-neutral gazetteer to this vast continent. Each section details a different country or region of the land, with histories, current events, fantastical locations, important personalities, major cities, secrets and clues, and more. From the Glistening Isles, a once-human region now annexed by the fae realm itself, to the hot deserts of Neteru, where catfolk preside over gleaming cities, from the forbidden Wastelands of Chixmal, whose borders are guarded by colossal statues that swat would-be intruders like ants, to the sweeping plains of the ever-expanding Uskiri Empire, Countries of Katernia contains a myriad plot hooks and powders kegs to detonate in any campaign desired.

The city of Grenzburg, safe behind star-shaped walls and with a bridge that spans a river, island in the middle, before terminating in a small fortress on the opposite bank.

In some ways, Lands of Katernia is our most ambitious Kickstarter since the very first one. It represents sixteen years of story telling and world building that has lead to this moment. Sign up now and help us make Lands of Katernia everything that it can be. And follow this newsletter (and the Pre-launch page) for excited updates as we get closer to launching.

Thank you for coming on this ride with me. I promise that with your help, this next chapter will be worth it.
