New Streaming Show

Nordic heroes facing off against wolf monsters in a cave.

I'm back from two weeks in China (with a short trip to Seattle at the end) and back in the chair. And I've got some exciting news.

Next week, Wednesday at 5:30 PST / 8:30 EST, we are launching a new streaming show. We'll be playing The Wyddcallum Curse, a Tales of the Valiant adventure from Kobold Press, penned by veteran game designer Steve Winter.

Warriors facing off against some kind of skull-headed horse creature and a wraith looking monster in a clearing in the woods

The Wyddcallum Curse is an introductory adventure for levels 1-5. I felt when it came out that it was Tales of the Valiant's Lost Mines of Phandelver. It's a wonderful launching point for a campaign, a great introduction to RPGs, a fun story set in an isolated valley, and it doesn't seem to have gotten the attention it deserves. In the scenario, you are helping an exiled thane recover his ancestral manor, moving into a valley, and contending with the dangers there. It's an open sandbox adventure, with some predetermined set pieces and a lot of exploration.

We're going to be using some of Tales of the Valiant's new subclasses, specifically the Vanguard and the Theurge. The former is a fighter built around tactics, command, and having an inspiring presence. The latter is a caster who can use both Arcane and Divine spells.

We're also going to be using the Field Guide to Monster Harvesting, Vol 1, which may prove to be my favorite harvesting and crafting system to date, as its longer than a few paragraphs and shorter than a book! The system allows for generic materials that can be harvested to aid in crafting items by type, as well as specific uses for specific materials. It seems versatile without being overwhelming.

Although I generally prefer milestone leveling, we'll be using XP, tracking encumbrance, doing lots of wilderness exploration, harvesting monster gore and ichor, and enjoying the feel of being lower-level characters in a dangerous world.

We're no Critical Role, but if you want to see an "extraordinarily ordinary" campaign without a big commitment (it's just 5 levels) where we put some of Kobold Press' new classes and systems to the test, please join us.

You can follow us on YouTube and Twitch. Again, the show starts next Wednesday, July 1st, at 5:30 PST / 8:30 EST.

Hope to see you there!
